We are influenced by many people throughout our lifetime, some who may have inspired us and guided us along the way. Some whom we might even call our Guru. The term 'gu' in guru stands for darkness, and 'ru' stands for removal, thus a Guru is someone who removes darkness from our life, one who helps us to "turn on the light". Dr. Wayne Dyer is one of those esteemed souls who touched my life and helped me to grow. I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, but I have read several of his books which helped me to change my perspective. Changing one's perspective...changing one's mind...changing one's thoughts is everything really. "Change your thoughts, change your life", as Wayne would say. Because, our thoughts determine our behavior, and our behavior determines our life.
As I began studing Vedic astrology Wayne's illuninating words would often come to mind because his words correlated so closely to the Vedic teachings. He frequently spoke about how it was important to follow your "dharma" which is a Sanskrit word that effectively means "our unique, essential purpose". He challenged his readers to reach for their highest Self and coveyed that everyone has the ability to accomplish this. Having your Vedic astrological chart read is a vehicle to reach your higher Self. You discover the traits that you are born with and uncover your hidden unconscious patterns. Knowing your unconscious patterns gives you the power to change them for the better, while not knowing keeps you in the dark. There is a light within us all that is striving to shine. Like the sweet song of long ago proclaims, "This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine, all the time, let it shine!".
When we say "Namaste" at the conclusion of yoga class, what we are essentially saying is "The light in me sees the light in you". Don't you love that! We are acknowledging the light in ourself and in others when we say Namaste:) Wayne's central message to the world was that we are all made of light, love, beauty, and wonder. He would often use the phrase "With Love and Light" preceding his signature. I have adopted this phrase myself to honor him and to continue his message in my own small way. My fervent hope is for all of us to recognize the light within ourselves and to earnestly see the light in others. Namaste!
With Love and Light,
Melanie
